Camera ‘Repair’ed

23 Nov

Taking Naveen’s advice I went to get my camera checked to find out the actual problem within the camera which the ‘Sony technician’ refused to check and claimed that the lens of the camera should be replaced (total cost is close to Rs.8500/-). Naveen found a thread in HPC with a list of camera repair shops. We went to the camera street in Chikkadapalli,Hyderabad [map]. Most of them sell cameras, lenses, flash and only few of them repair cameras. All of the camera shops I went to said that they need to look at the condition inside to identify the problem(which requires a day) and estimate the cost to repair it.

I chose Mr.Vishwanath’s shop out of the three we(Naveen & I) visited, since he looked like the most experienced person of all three and sounded experienced & professional. He said that he would need to check what the problem was. After a day, he called up saying that there is rust over the lens and said it would take Rs. 2500/- to clean it up and added that its only 90% of the chance that it would be fixed. I got another call after a day saying that the camera’s fixed. Felt lucky that I fell in the 90% chance. Now, the cam’s working its best.

I’d personally recommend him for any digital/analog camera repairs. I forgot to get a visiting card. But, here are the details :

The problem about my dsc-t70

10 Nov

Two weeks back @naveenkr suggested that I get my camera checked at a Sony Service center. The technician analyzed and told me there could be a possible problem with the lens (but he was also not sure. I am pretty sure that it was for the money) which was more than ¾th the cost of the camera. I heard the technician suggesting 3 more customers that it is a problem with the lens.

Either Sony doesn’t care about the very few bad quality products that degrades their reputation or the Sony service centers get a high cut pretending to repair a product. Atleast that’s the case in Hyderabad.

Planning it sell it off or get a replacement with a new Canon Rebel or another ‘point and shoot’ camera.

All this time, I thought it was an issue with my creative & photography skills. I myself, could not believe that I’ve been using a cam from 1.7 years (darn it). My flickr account mostly has the ‘not so great’ photos in my account.
